Brick by Brick: Sustainability and Opportunities for Women
As we designed the new Children’s Village, we wanted to build sustainably, caring for the environment while making a positive impact on our community. We researched best practices and were excited to learn about CSEB (Compressed Stabilized Earth Brick) technology.
Traditional bricks travel a long distance to get to Surkhet, create air pollution, and are often made in poor working conditions.
CSEB bricks, however, offer amazing benefits.
✅ Local Materials: Made from local soil, sand, and just 10% cement, reducing environmental impact.
✅Local Jobs: With every step in the construction, we want to create opportunities in our neighborhood and our city.
✅ Cost-Effective: 35-50% cheaper than fired bricks.
✅ Disaster Resistant: Built to withstand earthquakes—an essential feature in Nepal.
But wait, there’s more!

✅ By investing in CSEB technology in 2023, we created job opportunities for women in our community, who don’t always get the same job options as men.
Through training with the Kopila Valley Women’s Center, local women gained valuable skills to make these eco-friendly bricks—skills they can now use in other projects and to launch their own social enterprise using our equipment.
This project isn’t just about building a village; it’s about building futures. We’re thrilled to live our values by combining child safety, environmental sustainability, job creation, and gender justice—all in one initiative.
The impact of this combination is exciting, and we know the kids will love this safe, sustainable, and energy-efficient space.
Thank YOU for championing sustainability and gender equality with us! Join us today and help us continue to build a bright future brick by brick!
Your donation will mean a strong finish to this project. Will you be part of the journey?
