STUDENTS REUSING AND UPCYCLING AT KOPILA VALLEY

Happy Earth Month!

We celebrate the planet and work to care for it all year long, but Earth Day gives us a special reason to highlight all the accomplishments of our students, staff, and families at Kopila Valley. Made possible by YOU!

In coordination with this year’s Planet vs. Plastics theme, here are a few ways the Kopila students are re-using materials and reducing plastic.

The Sustainability Ambassadors club boasts four different working groups, and one is focused especially on waste management. These students share proper sorting practices with their peers and encourage the entire Kopila community to reduce the trash we send to the landfill.

A group of students and a few adults stand and sit on stone steps in front of a multi-story building with wooden railings and surrounded by trees. The students wear various colorful uniforms and smile at the camera.

The DIY Club is reusing plastics by making eco-bricks (bottles filled with plastic pieces, to build something new) and bottle cap artwork.

Four children in blue uniforms sit on the ground, sorting and cutting colorful materials into two green plastic buckets. Some materials are scattered on the floor, while they focus on organizing the items.

Students are making leaf plates to use in place of plastic disposable plates & cutlery.

A group of children and an adult sit on the floor, assembling plates made of green leaves. They are outdoors, surrounded by trees and backpacks leaning against a low wall. The children are wearing blue uniforms.
A young boy in a blue and green jacket holds a large leaf with food on it. Two more children, similarly dressed, sit beside him on a mat with more leaves around them. They appear to be involved in a group activity.

We’ve also been making plastic-free brooms from locally-sourced materials!

We are constantly in awe of the creativity of our students and staff. Keep following us on social media for more Earth Day practices we’re sharing, and please tell a friend who also loves the earth!
