Asmita Learns Agriculture Firsthand
KVS student Asmita recently completed a 45-day internship with AG Ventures.
(AG Ventures) A local bio-fertilizer manufacturing farm. Through the internship, she gained invaluable insights into organic farming and sustainability, and we are fortunate enough that she shared her experience with us!
On her first day, Asmita was excited about the opportunity to learn and get involved with AG Ventures. She explored the farm, noting the cultivation of various crops like bitter gourd, tomatoes, and marigolds, and learned about vermicomposting. A significant part of Asmita’s internship involved preparing vermicompost using Eisenia Fetida earthworms. She learned the detailed process of creating nutrient-rich compost, emphasizing its benefits such as improved soil structure and water retention.
Asmita also engaged in practical agricultural activities, such as using a mini-tiller for land preparation, practicing tori gardening, and using plastic trays for tomato seedlings. She appreciated the efficiency of these methods, particularly the mini-tiller. She also helped prepare Jole Mole, a local Nepali vermicompost made from medicinal plants and grasses. This organic fertilizer promotes soil health and enhances plant growth, making it ideal for sustainable gardening. In addition, Asmita learned about chili planting and the benefits of drip irrigation for tomatoes. In her reflection on her internship, she highlighted the importance of targeted watering and efficient pest control through these methods.
Asmita valued the hands-on learning and practical exposure at AG Ventures. Her internship enhanced her knowledge of organic farming and sustainable agricultural practices, highlighting the importance of eco-friendly methods for a sustainable future. Asmita’s experience at AG Ventures underscores the dedication required to promote sustainable farming practices and ensure a resilient future for agriculture.
