SARITA: Self reflection, exploring options, aligning with personal values

A 2019 Kopila graduate, Sarita is working at the school as an Assistant Teacher while pursuing a Bachelor’s in Business Administration (BBA). She tells us about her experiences and her discoveries in her journey of success and uncovering who she is. Sarita is keen-sighted, she gets inspired by her students, and she is a game-changer.

Hi, Sarita! Can you tell me why you applied for +2 in Management in Kopila Valley?

I finished my schooling years (grades 1-10) at Mount Everest Boarding School in Surkhet. I had always heard of a school that was different from the rest. During national soccer matches, volleyball, or any event, there would always be students, teachers, Maggie, and uncles and aunts from Kopila Valley cheering the loudest and coming up with creative strategies to cheer. For a girl coming of age, restricted by many things in the community, I could see that KVS girls were free to be involved and free to enjoy anything outside of textbooks. I was intrigued. When I heard Kopila Valley was recruiting students for their +2 Management classes, I instantly applied.

Tell me about your experience studying at Kopila Valley School.

The most powerful aspect of studying in Kopila Valley School was the diversity in the cohort. I was struck by the diverse range of students and teachers. I saw people of different backgrounds, races, and nationalities, all coming together with a common purpose of learning and discovery. The teachers were passionate and knowledgeable, and they encouraged students to take ownership of their education and pursue their interests.

Besides standard subjects, I was taking classes in financial management, gardening, art, debate, sustainability, dancing, and I found myself immersed in sports. But it wasn’t just the coursework that made my experience at this extraordinary school so special.  I also found a community of like-minded individuals who shared my passion for learning and social change. When I graduated in the year 2019, I had grown intellectually, socially, and emotionally and had developed a deep sense of purpose.

What have you been doing after graduating?

I enrolled myself in Mid-West University for BBA (Bachelors in Business Administration). My father is in the Army and my mom runs a small shop. My sister is young and in school. I could never imagine myself moving away from them. I acquired an internship as a Teacher Assistant in Kopila Valley School soon after I graduated. I am in my last year of bachelor’s studies, and it has been almost three years that I have worked as a teacher. I think I have found my calling in my profession. I am very proud of my achievements.

What inspires you in life?

From a young age, I was passionate about training in a profession with an intellectual element to it. I wanted to do something where I could work with my body and brain. So my achievements in teaching inspire me. Additionally, my young and keen students bring the best out of me.

What do you look forward to in life?

I haven’t mapped out my future, really. I am grabbing any opportunities that come my way. I am thinking of doing an MBA (Master’s In Business Administration) but it just is a thought and it could change at any moment. With this great uncertainty I hold, I really look forward to what my life will look like in two years.

Knowing what you know about your life and your future, what would you say to your 15- year- old self?

I would tell her to remember that growth and progress take time. Be patient with yourself, and focus on the small steps you can take each day to reach your goals.

Finally, is there anything you want to say to younger generations with aspirations and ambitions?

Enjoy the journey: junior years can be challenging, but it’s also a time of growth, learning, and self-discovery. Don’t forget to enjoy the journey and make the most of the opportunities and experiences that come your way. I know our society can be demanding, but what matters is what’s inside your heart.

After studying at Kopila Valley School, I still feel a sense of disbelief and gratitude. It was a dream come true, and it was a testament to the power of dedication and determination.
