This month we celebrated International Day of the Girl. Not only do we strive to teach our girls at Kopila Valley School that they can do and be anything, but we also try to empower their mothers at our Women’s Center to teach them this as well. We asked our Women’s Center trainees what they’ve learned in their training that they want to share with their daughters and here are their responses:

While other children my age went to school, I worked on the farm until bloody blisters formed on my hands. As the eldest of three daughters, I shouldered every responsibility to help my family earn money. I worked not just on my family’s farm, but also on farms of other villagers, regardless of heat or rain.

We're saddened to hear about the news story from western Nepal of yet another tragedy as a result of chhaupadi. When this practice is followed, women and girls must sleep in a hut outside their family home while menstruating because they are considered to be unclean.

Kopila students and women are some of the most at-risk individuals in our community. Thanks to you, we’ve built classrooms, enrolled students, provided a loving home, and educated women. This work is so important, but it's not over. Our community continues to face obstacles every day, and we need your help today on #GivingTuesday.
