Nena, We Love You!

Our awesome and much-loved Home Caregiver Nena left Kopila Valley today to return home to the United States. She has worked with us for the better part of 3 years, and she will be missed. She makes us laugh every morning at the breakfast table, she heals whatever ails us when we're sick, she lifts up the whole mood of the house, and she walks around in a cloud of contagious joy. She is one in a million. The kids put on a special farewell satsung just for her, complete with singing and dancing and poems and even a little play about her, complete with yoga and essential oils (two very Nena things). One of our older girls wrote her this sweet letter and read it aloud that night.

They Arrived with Smiles

They arrived with smiles at my front door, my first surprise as I had been expecting some weariness after 24 hours on planes; after throwing up in the car; after logistical delays and pending Visa’s; after a tense moment when they were almost turned down at the border. But, never mind, those details had faded. The first thing they did was open their arms for a hug as if we were long lost friends. I couldn’t wait to show them all the things that would surely be new to them— a hot shower, a blow dryer, the inside dog; the clothes sent to them from friends with girls their age.
