The Road

We just got back from ICU.  I got to touch one of Juntara's little feet.  She is sound asleep and being sedated for the night on ventilation.  Images of the past 6 months flashed before me as I watched her breathe.  Walks through Himalayan villages, conversations with her family in her village in Kalikot, that unbelievable e-mail in my inbox from Sarah, rides on bicycle rickshaws to get CT scans and MRIs, long waits in passport and visa offices, that first time sitting in the airplane wobbling in our seats during takeoff from Kathmandu to Delhi.  One of my proudest moments was watching Juntara today before the operation, how calm and brave she was even up until seconds before she went in for the operation she was giggling and singing.

Then after the operation seeing Juntara in that room hooked up to all those machines, I had to keep pinching myself.  I can't believe we're both here.  I can't believe how blessed we've been.  I can't believe where our lives have taken us.

Thank you to the Doctors and medical team (all volunteers) who spent 9 hours today working on Juntara's brain.  You are our heros.  Thank you Facing the World– generosity, love and kindness, personified.

Thank you to our superhero Andrea, and our angel Maggie Pierce in Canada.

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

Sweet dreams tonight Juntara. xo
