Not Just a School

Sometimes the best people to talk about BlinkNow's work are our students themselves. Here, J from Class 9, speaks about how his life has changed since being admitted to Kopila Valley School, highlighting the unique services offered at KVS, and why our school is like no other.

"Everyone can survive life without a good school like my school, Kopila Valley School (KVS). Similarly, I can also survive without KVS, but how I survive life is different after joining KVS. I joined KVS in 2067 Baishakh 7 in Grade 4. My school provides books, bags, notebooks, uniforms, shoes, etc. all for free. Because of this, I feel like it is not my school, it is my family. Before coming here I felt that schools just wanted to earn money from the student fees, but after coming here I feel like school is for providing knowledge. Before I came here, I saw my teacher as a soldier who hit others, but after I joined KVS no teacher has done so much as pinch me. I feel that it is not just a place for education but for everything. If I am sick, I don’t need to go to the hospital for treatment because there is a clinic at my school with free treatment. If I want to read a book, I can go to my school’s library. Having a library inspires me to read novels.

"In my school, there are Extracurricular Activities (ECA) so I have learned to dance, sing, play, and draw pictures. I am now healthy and fit because of the nutritious food at Kopila and the KVS clinic. I have learned to farm because it is taught at KVS. Now I am independent because at Kopila we are taught how to cook food, sweep, wash dishes, and serve food through the house duty system. Now I can survive in each corner of the world because I can understand the English language. I am even familiar with foreign people because many have visited my school.

"I never feel stress with the help of KVS counseling because I am taught how to avoid tension and solve problems. Through the student council, I have learned leadership. I have been the Sun House Captain for two years and a KVS student ambassador. Since childhood, I have always thought that earning money was the most important thing in life. But now I am inspired by Maggie and plan to be a social worker or political leader and help all the citizens of my country, Nepal. I feel very blessed and I thank the KVS family for making me an independent human by teaching many things." - J, Class 9
