A Plea for Flood Relief
Friday, August 15, 2014
On Friday, August 15, 2014, the Surkhet region in Western Nepal experienced heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding, which continues to this day. Steady rain began Wednesday night and has continued almost without pause for 48 hours straight. The rivers in the region swelled to new widths with force, ripping through neighborhoods and taking out bridges & homes. The number of dead and missing is still unconfirmed, and most areas are completely without power.
The BlinkNow team has been doing all it can to support the families of students enrolled in the Kopila Valley School as well as the general community. 195 refugees are currently taking shelter on school grounds, all of whom have lost their homes or can't return home because of great danger. Teachers have been scouting the area on motorbikes, sending the school bus when large groups in need are identified. Blankets, hot meals, clothing, and diapers are being distributed to everyone sheltered at Kopila. Our medical technician is also on site treating everyone in need.
Your support at this time means the world to this community. Funds raised will cover the cost of food, fuel, medical supplies, and all the other needs of the refugees in our care. We'd also like to distribute a stipend to every Kopila family that lost everything, with the hopes of helping them rebuild anew. Excess funds, if any, will be used for future community outreach, emergencies, rescues, child support and education.
