Letter #4 (50 Love Letters)

Dear A,

Shining bright star daughter of mine. I love you more than all the stars in the entire universe. I love how bright you shine and I love watching you grow into such an incredible young woman. Will you please stop growing up so fast? You are my artist, my sweet girl who beats to her own drum and it's a blessing to watch you gracefully learn how to navigate your way through this world. You always stay true to your heart and your feelings and your sense of self.

You have the best sense of style: bohemian meets tomboy meets punk rocker. You always want to wear black, shave half your head, and try new dreadlocks and piercings. And you always pull it off. But remember, no tattoos. Please, please no tattoos.

You love big and intensely. Your giggle is contagious and as much as I love your serious and driven artist side, I love when you're silly. I love when you keel over laughing and have to gasp for breath. I hope I get to watch you laugh like that forever and that you always remember all the reasons you have to smile. Your smile is killer even with the braces you got this year. You rock them so well.

One of my proudest moments of your life was watching you write and tell your story at the Do Lectures USA. Looking back I can't believe you did that so young. Watching you compete in Dance Surkhet Dance was amazing too. The dance competitions added so much fun to our Saturdays as a family and I loved how brave you were, adding salsa and belly dancing to your repertoire and setting the bar so high for everyone else. Remember when Lindsey came to visit for dance camp? She had been a backup dancer for Beyonce and she told me you would make it at an audition in LA.

You are so good at yoga, too. Can we trade bodies for a while? I envy how flexible you are and how in tune you are with your body and how hard you work. You read the most out of everyone in our family and often even get in trouble at school for reading for pleasure during class. Your love for books also made you a gifted writer! The stories you write always make me cry. My dream is to read a book by you some day.

Shine on bright star girl. Keep believing in yourself!

Love, Maggie Mom
