Letter #14 (50 Love Letters)

Sunday, April 24, 2016

Dear S,

When you came to Kopila, it took about 6 months before you uttered your first words. I knew you could hear what we were saying but I wasn't sure you could speak. The first time you spoke, you said an entire sentence and it came completely out of the blue. Sarah was there and we both looked at each other and cried. You were always really painfully shy, but little by little and in your own time, you came out of your shell.

You have found your place in our family so beautifully. You're in the middle girls crew and you all are a force to be reckoned with. Whenever I go for a run, you're always the one who comes with me. I say you should be an ultra-marathon runner. I've never even seen you out of breath and when I ask if you want to go a little further you always say yes. I have a dream of us doing the Tri for Kopila together some day or running a marathon.

Even though you look little, you're actually a tank. You are made of pure muscle and you usually win the record for eating the most momos. I remember watching you eat like 42 when you were 7 and I'd often find snacks under your pillow. You just keep growing, so tall and strong.

You have the most beautiful curly hair that's nearly impossible to get a comb through. You have the most beautiful eyes and I always feel like I can tell what you're thinking just by looking into them even when you decide to stop talking every now and again. You are incredibly bright and you take your time on all the things you do. Slow and steady, you do things in your own way and on your own time.

Roses are red, violets are blue. You are the best daughter in the universe and I'll always love you. I can't wait to see you soon. We are going on a run together. You have to make me run again.

xoxo Mommy
