Trekking in the Himalayas

Three of our Kopila Valley young adults recently had the opportunity of a lifetime to go on a week-long trek in the Himalayas and see the snow-capped mountains of the tallest range in the world. When these young adults know how much they are capable of achieving and what their talents are, they are better prepared to lift themselves, their families, and their communities out of poverty.

We Tied the Knot!

We had the time of our lives and the most perfect celebration that was everything we wanted and more. What I remember most from the day was not being able to stop laughing and smiling, until it came time to walk down the aisle. I saw Jeremy and all the kids walking down and the 4 ring bearers and the 9 flower girls and started to cry. It felt so surreal and almost too perfect to be true.

They Arrived with Smiles

They arrived with smiles at my front door, my first surprise as I had been expecting some weariness after 24 hours on planes; after throwing up in the car; after logistical delays and pending Visa’s; after a tense moment when they were almost turned down at the border. But, never mind, those details had faded. The first thing they did was open their arms for a hug as if we were long lost friends. I couldn’t wait to show them all the things that would surely be new to them— a hot shower, a blow dryer, the inside dog; the clothes sent to them from friends with girls their age.

Earthquake Relief Trip: Part Two

The workshop at Abari’s Learning Center was amazing. I’ve never seen our kids so involved and interested! They were given challenges to make their own rammed earth blocks using very basic materials and then design their own model homes using whatever materials they could find around the property. It blew our minds what they were able to come up with. Throughout the workshop, they gained a great understanding of the rammed-earth construction process, which allowed us to jump right into the second phase of our trip.
